Unit No.1, of the Seoul Power Plant, is the living history of the electric power industry in our country, and was completed in 1930 when sail boats with yellow canvases sailed on the Han River. Unit No.2 was completed in 1935 and Unit No.3 was completed in 1956 for the development of the economy after the Korean War. Units No. 1~3 were scrapped afterwards since their lifespan expired, and Units No.4. and 5, which were completed after the nurturing policy of heavy and chemical industries of the government was announced in 1970s, have been operating until now.
The Seoul Thermal Power Plant, which played a pivotal roll in the development of industries throughout our country for over 70 years, is now taking the initiative of environmental conservation in urban centers, by completing fuel conversion to LNG, a clean fuel without pollution. It has been proven in safe power plant operation in and out of the company, by accomplishing the grand "Zero accident target" record, 19 times (9,883 days).

The Seoul Power Plant is contributing greatly to reducing the pollutants emitted according to the individual heating, by supplying the room heating water and hot water to the facilities more than 50,000 households in the surrounding areas of Yeoido, Dongbuicheon-dong, Mapo, and Banpo. The Seoul Power Plant is now preparing a big transformation once again with it's closing in 2012 just ahead. An underground combined cycle power plant will be constructed, the first in the country, and on the grounds of the current power plant, an ecological park will be constructed as a landmark representing cultural space and also a resting place for citizens.
