Climate Change

Unusual changes in weather patterns are increasing greatly in many regions recently. El Nino that caused extreme drought and floods, appeared to have increased after the mid 70's. IPCC (Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change) under the influence of UN, expressed that the average global temperature has risen by 0.74℃ during the past 100 years (1906~2005). They also warned that the average global temperature would rise additionally by 6.4℃ and that the sea water level will rise 59cm at the end of the 21th century(2090~2099), if we continue to depend on fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal like we are now.

We feel a great responsibility towards such a critical situation that the earth faces, and as a result, endeavoring to reduce greenhouse gases. We will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by constructing the inventory for the scale of greenhouse gases emitted from each power plant, and by introducing new technologies of power generation to improve energy efficiency. In addition, we are investing in research and development for securing carbon dioxide reduction technology, and actively promoting the spread of renewable energy facilities without greenhouse gas emissions, such as wind power, small hydro-electric power, and fuel cells.
